The #InstaHype: Why Chokers Are The New ‘It’ Accessory

By Daniela Morosini

The ’90s had a lot going for it, fashion-wise. The original supers – Kate, Linda, Naomi, Christy, Cindy, brown lipliner, the birth of contouring and of course, stonewash denim. It was a time of slightly gothic rebellion, of unkempt hair and edgy style. It was a simpler time.

While we here at DRESSR HQ rejoice at the rebirth of any ’90s trends, we’re particularly excited about the choker revival. From Selena Gomez to Millie Mackintosh, the Insta A List have been loving chokers again recently – and we are all about it. They can look elegant and chic – a la Hailey Baldwin and her slinky evening number – or cute and retro, a la Lily Aldridge and her sheer blouse.

The perfect partner to a good choker, is of course, a topknot. If you’re not ready to brave a full pineapple-esque bun, go for a half-bun (or ‘hun’, to those in the know).

In fact, while at Coachella, Taylor Swift mused: ‘I feel like chokers are the new flower crowns’ – completely sealing their status as a festival must-have. Like flower crowns, they’re whimsical and fun. Unlike flower crowns, you can totally rock one of these bad boys everyday without any woodland-nymph connotations.

I feel like maybe chokers are the new flower crowns?
