Gone are the days when a trip to the hairdressers was always preceded by a Google Image search for ‘Blake Lively Hair’ or, for the truly old-school, bookmarking pages in a magazine to show your mane man. These days, the slightest of scrolls through the ‘#HairGoals’ hashtag will bring you every kind of style you could possibly lust after – dare we say screenshotting is the new scrap-booking?
Either way, Instagram is a veritable hub of truly awe-inspiring ‘dos, from the beachy to the intricate – here’s who you need to follow to be ahead of the curve.
1. Jen Atkin
Warning: do not go on Jen Atkin’s feed if you’re having a bad hair day. It won’t do much for your mood. The woman behind the hair of Kim, Courtney & Khloe, as well as Chrissy Teigan and Katy Perry, Jen’s signature is the perfect undone beach wave, but she excels at high-octane glamour, too. With over 1 million followers and a newly-launched haircare range to boot, Jen’s star is going to keep on rising.
Tokyo Stylez has had pretty impressive track record when it comes to Instagram – he credits it for each and every one of his celebrity clients. A wig-maker extraordinaire, Tokyo started out making wigs for cancer patients, until his truly incredible hairpieces caught the eye of Naomi Campbell and Rihanna’s glam squads. Fast-forward a few years, and Tokyo’s making some of the best wigs and weaves in the business. Oh, and he models them all on his feed. A must-follow.

If it’s straight-up tutorials you’re after, this might seem like an odd choice, but trust us – it’s worth it. The feed run by Kardashian Beauty’s hair line does push their products a lot (no bad thing considering the amount of awards they’ve scooped up) but it’s also chock-full of handy hints and tips. Great for when you’ve splashed out on some new kit, but er, aren’t quite sure how to use it.
4. George Northwood
George is best friends with Alexa Chung, but that isn’t the only reason you should follow him (although the regular appearance of her face, alongside other pals Suki Waterhouse and Rosie Huntington Whiteley is a huge plus). George posts cute behind-the-scenes snaps of his work, as well as the cuts and colours he’s currently crushing on. Expect nonchalant, Brit-cool styles.

5. Samantha Cusick
Samantha Cusick is the reigning queen of balayage. Based out of Taylor Taylor salon in London, she’s popular with superstar bloggers like Zoella and Tanya Burr, and does a mean colour job. Her calling card is expertly-blended, super natural looking highlights – if there was a magic tropical island somewhere, populated solely by supermodels, their hair would look like this.

6. Sarah Potempa
If you think you’ve seen impressive braids, think again. Plaiting pro Sarah Potempa does some truly mind-boggling things with braids, including intricate ropes, braids within braids and basically every kind of mermaid hair type creation your heart could desire. Truly aspirational stuff.

7. Guido Palau
Guido is legendary in the beauty industry. He’s done cover shoots for every big name magazine you can think of, crafts the new season trends backstage at the most high profile fashion week shows and even has a coffee table book of his work. He’s a big deal, okay? Follow him for avant-garde style inspo.
8. Sam McKnight
Sam McKnight is the Chanel hairstylist of choice. Need we say more? If that’s not whetted your appetite, he does the hair of some screen and music legends, like Cate Blanchett, and is also pally with Naomi Campbell. Your feed is not complete without him.
9. Lacy Redway
Jamaican-born Lacy is a hot new favourite of ours. With a client base that includes She Of Most Excellent Hair, Olivia Palermo and Jourdan Dunn, you better believe Lacy’s feed gives us all kinds of hair envy. There’s seemingly no style she can’t do, from chic updos to braided bonanzas.
