Insta’s A-List: The Makeup Maestros You Need To Follow

By Daniela Morosini

A DRESSR confession: we find watching beauty tutorials on Instagram utterly hypnotic. Seeing someone expertly fill in the sparsest of brows, or effortlessly chisel a cheek fills us with a kind of serenity that even forty-five minutes of yoga can’t beat. Aside from that, Instagram is the best place to spot new makeup talent and trends. Countless makeup artists cite ‘gram as the reason for their massively expanded client base (Ariel Tejada was spotted by Kylie Jenner on Instagram, aged only 18), and it’s where all the hot new looks break first. Here’s who’ll have you double-tapping…

1. Mario Dedivanovic

We couldn’t not include Mario, who went from being a (very talented) jobbing makeup artist to a beauty sensation, thanks to Instagram and his most high-profile client: Kim Kardashian West. Dubbed ‘the King of Contour’, Mario’s feed is full of high-octane glamour and some seriously jaw-dropping transformations. He’s passionate about fresh, glowing skin – hit follow for some #SculptingGoals.

2. Hung Vanngo

Hung’s one to watch. The Vietnamese-Canadian makeup artist is signed to big-name agency The Wall Group, and counts Pretty Little Liar’s Ashley Benson, Miranda Kerr and actual Gisele among his fans. His speciality is eyes to kill – his creative used of colour will have you thinking more outside the box when it comes to your normal smokey eye.

3. Ania Milczarczyk

Ania’s based in Australia, which means she spends all day on the beach, perfecting the Bondi babe glow. If Mario’s the King of Contour, Ania’s the Queen of Strobing – her signature is radiant, candlelit skin. Her dewy complexions finished with sunkissed highlights will have you booking a one-way ticket to Sydney. Or at least scooping up the products she name-checks.

4. Patrick Ta

Patrick’s a favourite with the Victoria’s Secret set, so think bronzed, sculpted skin, mega-watt lashes and plumped-up pouts, but done softly and with an oh-so-sultry finish. Uber-babes Gigi Hadid and Lily Aldridge make regular appearances.

5. Hannah Martin

Flying the flag for old Blighty is Hannah Martin, a makeup artist and mum who has us making mental lists of every product she mentions. She’s not afraid of a bare-face before and after selfie, and excels at a good daytime smokey eye. Follow for straight-talking advice and reviews.

6. Charlotte Tilbury

Charlotte Tilbury is so influential, she essentially re-invented the smokey eye. Seriously winged out and dramatic, yet somehow, still really wearable, Charlotte’s eye looks are enduringly popular. A backstage veteran – she’s done the makeup for the Tom Ford shows, which is essentially the pinnacle – as well as working on countless major magazine covers and with every supermodel going, Charlotte is a beauty doyenne and a non-negotiable follow.
